When I was about 10 years old my friend and I would go to the local park and hunt for the great big black slugs that lived by the river. When we found them we would torture them in unspeakable ways, thinking up more horrific ways to kill them each time. I know slugs are hardly the highest form of life but looking back I am so disgusted with myself. When I bump into the friend all these years later (I am now 38) he totally denies ever doing it! At least I’m not in denial over this period in my life but I wonder if it a “natural” thing for kids to come to terms with the ability to kill other creatures. Hopefully you experiment and then are done. I dunno, I just feel real bad for those slugs. I tell my three year old son never to kill any living thing, even an ant.
